Hero Setup

Select 4 heroes and set one aside to be lost. For each:

1. Standee with clip
2. Hero card
3. 3 Health Tokens
4. 4 Black Energy Dice (1D8 for Dan)
5. Starting Asset (the one with hero's face on it)

Monster Setup

1. Choose a Boss and complete its start-of-game setup.
2. Sort the three types of Spread Monsters into three stacks.
3. Shuffle Basic Monster Cards into face-down stack.

Map Setup

1. Randomly place all 16 Location Cards into a 4x4 grid with light-colored side up.
2. Ensure that Home and Crossroads are within the four central spaces.
3. Place a Monster and an Asset face up in each of the four corner spaces.
4. Place the three active Heroes at the Home space.

Card and Token Supply Setup

Create Token Supply:

1. Reroll Tokens = reroll any number of dice
2. Wild Tokens = one die of any number
3. Assist Tokens = ignore Monster abilities except Doom and Spread

Shuffle Asset and Clue decks.

Begin Game

Objectives

WIN: Defeat the Boss.

LOSE: All Heroes are downed OR the Doom Track reaches the end.

Difficulty Adjustments

Easier:

• Play with easiest boss -- Tanin the Witch
• Each hero starts with 1 extra random Asset.
• Only count monsters, not Doom icons, when increasing the Doom Track.
• Allow two rerolls of unlocked dice instead of one.
• Allow dice locked onto character ability to be applied to monster defeat conditions.

Harder:

• Play with a harder boss.
• Heroes start with no items.
• Start Doom Track on 5.
