How to Play


Room Phase

Upon entering a new room:

1. Determine Room

Roll die to determine which room you are entering. Can exert (gain pulse rate to modify die result).

  1. Corridor
  2. Armory
  3. Cryo Chamber
  4. Engine Room
  5. Nav-Bridge
  6. Escape Pod Bay

"Here it is" Rule: If in Corridor and new room is Corridor, enter next objective room. Else, if you roll the room you're in, go to Corridor.

2. Set up Room Contents

Roll die to determine room layout:

Place walls and terrain.

Roll die to discover elements:

3. Spawn Characters

Roll die to spawn Survivor.

If playing with NPCs, roll 4-6 to spawn NPC, then roll again.

Roll die to spawn Demons.


Wits Phase

Repeat until reach room exit (next room phase) or dead (game over)

1. Roll dice = Pulse Rate

For dice <= 3: Demon Pulse Actions

If no demons present: Spawn demons
Else: Perform all demon pulse actions if possible:
For nearest demon:

  1. If rolled 3, gain Evasion token if possible. Else convert die 3-1=2
  2. If rolled 2, move if possible. Else convert die 2-1=1
  3. If rolled 1, attack if possible (survivor can dodge; test 4+)
If any unused dice with 1-3, apply to next nearest demon, etc.

For dice >= 4: Perform one Survivor action for each success

Move or Blitz

3 spaces. Moving through demons prompts attack test:
1: take 1 dmg
2-5: dodge
6: dodge and bank for Number of the Beast

Run and Gun

2 spaces and 1 dmg

Style on 'Em

2 spaces and Evasion token

Interact
(use console,
unlock crate,
open door,
talk to NPC)

If demons adjacent to survivor, roll die for test: 1-3: failed
4-6: succeeded
Else, automatically succeed.

If interacting with crate, roll die to discover item: 1-2: Flame Frag
3-4: Style Soda
5-6: Armor Plate

Use item

Apply effect and discard token

2. Demon mirror actions:

If player did blast, bash, spray 'em, or cleave kick: Demon attack

If player did move, blitz, or run and gun: Demon move

If player did style on 'em, interact, or use item: Demon evade

General Information

NPCs

NPCs have 1 HP, cannot evade, but can dodge and contribute 6 to Number of the Beast.

When they escape, Survivors heal 1 HP.

Survivors interact with NPCs to activate them as follows:

Thawing Crew Members

If a Survivor is slain, he/she can be resurrected. Interact with console in Cryo room, then choose: toggle Cold effect OR resurrect the Survivor

Exerting

Survivor can gain +1 pulse rate to modify die roll +/- 1

Dodging

Roll 1d6 for each point of damage not evaded. Dodged if 4+

Dark Effect

When ship is dark, line of sight is 2.

Cold Effect

When ship is cold, demons have -1 movement and cannot evade.
