Setup
Prepare the dungeon:
- Unless quest setup says otherwise, place Basic Dungeon Card 1 (the dungeon entrance) in center of play area.
- Deal other Basic Dungeon cards into four equal piles
- Add scenario's Story Cards to piles
- Shuffle each pile, then stack according to scenario setup
- Place Explore marker on top of dungeon deck.
Choose four heroes. For each:
- Standee
- Hero card
- Health dial
- Countdown token
Place scenario's enemy cards and standees within reach
Place countdown track and threat marker according to scenario.
Usually just 1 and 2 unless otherwise noted.
Place nearby:
Shuffled treasure cards
Unshuffled special item cards
Sequence of Play
Hero phase
Perform any number of free actions at any time on your turn:
- Actions from item or treasure cards
- Hero's special ability:
- Place hero's countdown token at start of countdown track
- HOUSE RULE: All special abilities are free actions with cooldown
- HOUSE RULE: Healer Cat's ability always heals 1 + #successes
- Reveal dungeon:
- Remove explore token from dungeon deck
- Place dungeon card
- If card shows spawn points, spawn enemies
- If card shows treasure chests, place treasure chest tokens
- If card is story card, read story entry from Quest Book
Perform two full actions:
- Move up to speed value (diagonal OK)
- Search adjacent treasure chest:
- Draw treasure card
- Discard treasure chest
- Revive adjacent hero stunned by Hedgiecorn
- Swap items with adjacent hero
- Attack a monster if in range and line of sight:
- Roll dice; apply one damage for each splat
- If no success, become determined
- HOUSE RULE: If monster defeated, gain XP = monster HP.
If XP > 6, gain 1 treasure or heal 1 HP, then reset XP to 1.
Enemy phase
Two times for each enemy in play:
- If in range and has line of sight to hero, attack
- Else move toward closest hero
Countdown phase
- Move all hero countdown tokens
- If Explore token on top of dungeon deck, move threat tracker
HOUSE RULE: If dungeon deck is empty, do not move threat tracker.
- Else return Explore token to dungeon deck
- If threat tracker moves off end of countdown track, spawn a spider in the center of every tile with a spider web
