• Character board and clips. Set to starting (green) values
• Player reference card

Place dice (8) within reach of players

Place Number Track, pointer, books, and tokens aside

Shuffle Event, Item, and Omen decks

Place starting tiles (marked L) about ten inches apart:

1. Ground Floor Staircase, Hallway, Entrance Hall
2. Basement Landing
3. Upper Landing

Shuffle room tiles and stack them nearby

Choose scenario card

Look at Explorers' birthdays. First player is whose birthday comes next.
